DUBAI, 20th January, 2025 (WAM) – Dubai has once again secured its position as the cleanest city in the world, according to the latest Global Power City Index (GPCI) by the Institute for Urban Strategies at the Mori Memorial Foundation in Japan. This marks the fifth consecutive year Dubai has claimed the top spot, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability, innovation, and urban excellence.
Dubai outperformed 47 major cities worldwide, achieving a perfect 100% score in the city cleanliness metric under the environment pillar—one of the key criteria assessing global urban strength. This achievement highlights Dubai’s relentless pursuit of sustainability and its dedication to setting a global standard for modern cities.
Dubai Municipality, in collaboration with government and private sector partners, has played a pivotal role in this success. Through the Dubai Integrated Waste Management Strategy 2041, the city aims to reduce waste production by 18% and achieve 100% waste diversion from landfills by 2041. These efforts align with Dubai’s broader vision of sustainable urban development and environmental conservation.
Marwan bin Ghalita, Acting Director General of Dubai Municipality, emphasized that Dubai’s leadership in global rankings reflects its vision to be the best city in the world to live and work.
“Excellence is achieved through teamwork, dedication, and a commitment to the highest standards. Dubai has set a benchmark for future cities, built on innovation, sustainability, and an exceptional quality of life,” he stated.
He also recognized the efforts of Dubai Municipality’s sanitation teams, consisting of over 3,200 monitors, supervisors, and engineers, whose dedication has upheld the city’s impeccable cleanliness standards for five consecutive years. He further acknowledged the crucial role of public and private sector collaboration in achieving this milestone.
